How long does a floatation bath,
a massage therapy or a
Pulsar session take?
Floatation bath session:
Appointments are scheduled every 90 minutes. The session starts with a detailed description, particularly geared towards those experiencing the floatation bath for the first time, a compulsory shower, a full hour of floating and a rinsing shower after your session, all in your own private room.
Massage therapy session:
Massage therapy appointments are also scheduled every 90 minutes. That way, besides enjoying a full hour of massage, our therapists and clients have time to discuss expectations, and clients have plenty of time to get comfortable and ready. After the session, there is still plenty of time to gently come back to reality. Those who come in for a massage are also welcome to shower if they wish to do so.
Pulsar session: 30 minutes.
Is there a best order? Floatation before massage.
Massage then floatation or Pulsar, floatation and massage?
This is a truly personal question, and sometimes a matter of availability of our facilities. The best choice is spontaneous. Whichever comes to you first. However, we do recommend you booking a Pulsar session before a floatation bath or a massage therapy session.
Is Pulsar dangerous for my eyes?
No. The lights used in the glasses are tiny light emitting diodes (LED) which are quite safe and actually of a lower light intensity than a regular light bulb. During a session, we recommend you keep your eyes closed to remain in a deeper state of relaxation, but we can adjust the brightness to suit your preferences.
I know that pulsations of light can trigger epileptic episodes.
Am I at risk?
There is only a small percentage of people in the population that are unaware they suffer from epilepsy (i.e. one on 20,000). For these people, pulsating lights, like a "strobe", can cause discomfort. Simply remove the glasses at the beginning of the session if you feel any discomfort.
Where does the word Ovarium come from?
“Ovarium” was the trademark of a floatation bath manufacturer in the 1980s. The word “Ovarium” contains the Latin ovum, meaning egg, which refers to the ovoid form of our floatation baths and quite symbolically, a return to our primary life source.
What is Epsom salt and what benefits does it have?
Epsom salt is the common name of magnesium sulphate. When it is dissolved in clear water, it allows the body to float effortlessly. It is most renowned to help facilitate the blood circulation and enhance sleep. It is also used as a safe and natural laxative or purgative solution. Epsom salt can be purchased in regular drugstores.
Is there any iodine in Epsom salt?
Epsom salt is free of iodine, therefore it is safe to use even if you are allergic to iodine.
Are there any contra-indications (allergies or others) that
would prevent anyone from enjoying a floatation bath?
There is no known contra-indication to floatation baths. Although, it is possible that sensitive or bruised skin might be irritated by Epsom salt. This is why it is best to avoid floating when you have a skin rash or an outbreak. If only a small region of your skin is affected, petroleum jelly can be applied to prevent the salt from coming in contact with the sensitive region, so the experience of floatation can remain a pleasant one.
Is the water contained in each floatation bath changed
between each client? How are they cleaned?
The solution contained in the floatation baths is made of water, Epsom salt and cleaning products, all of which are filtered after each use. Moreover, many tests and cleaning procedures are practiced, and our water is sampled and tested regularly, many times a day in order to make sure our highest quality standards are met.
If I have recently dyed my hair, is there a risk that the colour might be affected by the floatation bath water?
The Epsom salt and other cleaning products that we use in the water do not affect your hair colouring in any way. Although, it is very important to carefully wash your hair, prior to using our floatation baths, making sure none of your hair colouring product gets mixed in your floatation bath water.
Are the floatation baths open or closed (is there a door or not)?
Each of the six floatation baths has a door which can be opened or closed using a system of pullies. Each user can choose if he or she wishes to fully or partially open or close his or her door, and change it at any time while floating.
I am pregnant. May I float or get a massage instead?
The floatation bath is great for pregnant women, it allows them to rest in the water as the weight is taken off while floating. Also, many of our therapists have specifically studied particular techniques for pregnant women's massage.
Is it possible to share a floatation bath with someone?
The floatation bath is a relaxation area and of personal rejuvenation and growth. The space was carefully designed to comfortably accommodate one person. It would not really be suitable for two or more people.
Is it possible to receive a massage in the same room as someone else?
Our massage therapy rooms were designed to only accommodate one person at a time.
Are your massage therapists trained
(masseur versus massage therapists)?
All of our massage therapists have received certified training and are members of an association.
Do you also offer beauty services (pedicure, manicure, etc)?
Our mission is first to offer a relaxation and rejuvenation area for body and mind. Therefore, all of our services are related to the floatation baths and massage therapy.
Do your gift certificates have an expiry date?
The gift certificates issued by Ovarium do not have an expiry date. However, discount coupons and gift certificates that our partners issue (i.e. La Forfaiterie) usually carry terms and conditions of use as well as an expiry date, all of which is written directly on the coupon or certificate.
How can I be sure that no one will try to use my account, getting a massage using my subscription under my name?
Client information is confidential, and it is rare that one will use someone else's name to pay. Nevertheless, in case there is a doubt, all appointments paid with a subscription can be traced in the system and verified.
Is there any parking around?
There is easy parking on the streets close by. But do remember that it is important to check for reserved parking spots and stickers, especially during traffic hours.
