OUR ORIGINS
Convinced that a true revolution starts from within, Bernard Meloche began a quest that led him through discoveries and revelations.
Inspired by Alvin Toffler's Future Shock (1970), which predicted that changes in people's lives would be taking place faster and faster, he set out to find a way to cope with this fast and ever-changing pace of life--which was inevitable--rather than being overcome by it.
In 1982, Bernard Meloche discovered floatation baths, a brand new technique that enabled users to reach a state of deep relaxation quickly, while offering a sanctuary that was conducive to communion with the inner self.
Shortly after making this discovery, he created Ovarium, the first floatation bath centre in Montréal, originally located on Saint-Denis street, close to Sherbrooke, and then, on Parc Avenue for another 15 years.
Since March 2000, Ovarium has had its own building located on the corner of Beaubien and Saint-Denis. Our new centre comprises six flotation bath rooms and eleven massage therapy rooms, all of which are available for you seven days and seven evenings a week.
Through the years, Bernard Meloche had the chance to meet Dr John C. Lilly, the famous neurophysiologist who invented the floatation baths, on five occasions. On one such occasion, during a workshop that he was giving in California at the Esalen Institute, Bernard Meloche had an epiphany: how unique it would be to combine the best massage therapy techniques with floatation bath sessions, creating a real synergy between the two. Since then, this remarkable combination has been Ovarium's trademark.
With nearly a quarter-century of experience, Ovarium remains a unique sanctuary in which to relax and be rejuvenated.
